The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has declared that it is his turn to govern Imo State in 2027, insisting that equity and fairness demand that he succeeds Governor Hope Uzodimma.
He said he has the experience, vision and blueprint required to take the state to the next level.
Anyanwu made the declaration during the inauguration of a support group, Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy, held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
According to him, all his contemporaries who eventually became governors of Imo State emerged from the PDP, arguing that the governorship should now be ceded to him in the interest of justice.
“We were four indefatigable PDP stalwarts — my humble self, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Dr Hope Uzodimma, Dr Ikedi Ohakim and Chief Emeka Ihedioha,” he said.
“By the special grace of God, all the three personalities have governed Imo State, remaining myself. As the Lord liveth, it is my turn. I have come to take my turn and I believe other contestants will support me.”
The PDP national secretary said political power is neither gifted nor donated but won through contest, expressing confidence that he would emerge victorious.
He also claimed that the PDP was gaining more strength in Imo State, with thousands of new members joining the party, adding that it remains the platform trusted by the people.
The former senator charged members of the newly inaugurated support group to mobilise support for the PDP across communities while carrying out their assignment with dedication and transparency.
He also warned against electoral malpractice, saying the PDP had put structures in place to monitor activities at polling units across the state during future elections.
“There’s nothing they know that we do not know, and there’s nothing they have which we do not have. Whichever way they want it, we are equal to the task,” Anyanwu said.
“But we assure them that their rigging tactics will not work this time around. We have stationed our men at every polling unit to monitor the ballots and ensure they are protected until the results are announced.”
Anyanwu added that the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy was one of several groups working to actualise his governorship ambition, alongside the Divine Mandate and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy.
He urged members of the various support groups to work together to strengthen his political movement ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Imo State.
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his fatherly role in fostering unity within the PDP, while calling on party members to rally behind the effort.
