In a series of successful security operations, police operatives have rescued 23 victims from kidnappers in Niger and Enugu States, signaling renewed momentum in the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to curb rising insecurity across the country.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the first rescue occurred in Niger State following a brazen attack by kidnappers on Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area.
Five individuals, including Usman Daina, were abducted during the assault. While Daina was released after two days in captivity, police and other security agencies intensified rescue efforts. Their coordinated action led to the successful release of the remaining four hostages—Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko—on May 22, 2025. All were safely reunited with their families.
In a separate operation in Enugu State, police operatives from the state command launched a tactical assault on the Uvuru-Ukpata forest in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, where a group of commuters had been abducted along the Olo-Umulokpa Road.
“Following actionable intelligence, our operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, overpowered them, and successfully rescued nine hostages,” said ACP Adejobi. Earlier, two kidnapped men were also rescued from a forest in Amalla-Egazi after being abducted on May 16 in the Ezimo community.
On May 23, another major breakthrough was recorded when security forces, working alongside local vigilantes, stormed a forest near the Enugu-Kogi border. A confrontation with the abductors led to the neutralization of one kidnapper, while others escaped with gunshot injuries. Eight hostages were rescued unharmed.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the dedication and bravery of the officers involved in the operations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with local security groups and communities.
“These rescues underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal syndicates and ensure that no part of Nigeria serves as a safe haven for criminals,” the IGP stated.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intensifying its efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime nationwide.
