Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and his deputy, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, amid rumours of a leadership shake-up within the forum.
The governors reached the resolution after a closed-door meeting held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The meeting, which lasted over three hours and was presided over by Uzodimma, focused on preparations for the forthcoming APC primaries and strategies to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise at both national and sub-national levels.
Briefing journalists after the meeting alongside Governor Uba Sani and Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, Uzodimma said the gathering became necessary as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the APC governors, party leadership and various committees involved in the primaries must work in unity to guarantee a transparent and successful process.
Uzodimma also stressed the need for party members and stakeholders to rally support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid following the submission of his nomination form on Thursday.
He said the governors were convinced that Tinubu’s performance in office deserved another term and urged members of the party to remain united in the overall interest of the APC.
Speaking further, Governor Uba Sani said the unity of the ruling party was non-negotiable, adding that APC governors had remained more united than ever in support of President Tinubu and the party leadership.
On rumours circulating on social media about an alleged change in PGF leadership, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris dismissed the reports as false and misleading.
“You can see our Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and his Vice, Governor Uba Sani, are here with us. They remain our leaders. We have no problems,” Idris said while moving the motion for a vote of confidence in the forum’s leadership.
The rumours had earlier prompted the Director-General of the PGF, Folorunso Aluko, to issue a rebuttal reaffirming Uzodimma’s leadership of the forum.
Governors from Imo, Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Lagos, Ebonyi, Kano, Yobe, Edo, Zamfara, Benue, Kebbi, Borno and Jigawa states attended the meeting, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.
