Enugu State is set to make aviation history as it launches its first state-owned commercial airline, Enugu Air, on Monday, July 7, 2025. This marks a major step in Governor Peter Mbah’s bold plan to position Enugu as a leading transportation and aviation hub in Nigeria.
The announcement was made in an official statement on Thursday, signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor. According to the statement, the launch ceremony will take place at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, confirmed as the Special Guest of Honour.
The airline, according to the statement will begin operations with a fleet of three modern Embraer jets—E170 and E190 series—chosen for their operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and regional adaptability.
Dr. Ozor said the airline’s initial route network will form a strategic “golden triangle,” connecting Enugu with Lagos and Abuja, before expanding to include Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other key domestic destinations.
“With a strong foundation of innovation and sustainability, we are ready to redefine air travel, instil pride, and elevate Enugu’s prominence on the national and global stage,” Ozor stated.
Enugu Air is a cornerstone of Governor Mbah’s integrated transportation blueprint, which envisions a multimodal system that includes aviation, road, and rail infrastructure. The project is expected to not only boost connectivity and commerce but also reinforce Enugu’s reputation as a forward-thinking and investor-friendly state.
