In a major push to modernise public transportation, the Imo State government has launched an ambitious digitised Mass Transit Programme, featuring the construction of state-of-the-art bus terminals across key locations in the state.
Announced over the weekend, the initiative marks a significant step in the administration’s broader infrastructure transformation strategy and is aimed at delivering safer, more comfortable, and highly efficient travel for residents.
According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, the terminals which will be located at Naze Junction, Egbu, and Onitsha Road—will rival international standards and serve as modern transportation hubs.
“These terminals are not just bus stops—they are designed as mini-airports, complete with air-conditioned waiting lounges, loading bays, restrooms, eateries, and retail outlets,” Ugochukwu said. “This project reflects the government’s vision to reshape how people move within the state.”
Aside from enhancing mobility, the new transport infrastructure is expected to serve as a powerful economic catalyst. The project is set to generate a wide array of job opportunities in areas such as security, ticketing, maintenance, and technical operations—including positions in electrical and mechanical support.
“The Mass Transit Programme isn’t just about buses and buildings—it’s about people, jobs, and progress,” Ugochukwu noted. “We’re building a system that puts safety and convenience first, while also unlocking local commerce and employment.”
He added that the government’s commitment to creating a reliable and secure transport network will offer residents peace of mind, improved connectivity, and a renewed sense of pride in public infrastructure.
As the state prepares to roll out this transformative plan, expectations are high for a cleaner, more organised, and economically vibrant Imo—driven by innovation and powered by purpose.
