The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the personal details of candidates vying for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025. This follows the successful conclusion of party primaries and the submission of nomination forms by 16 political parties, meeting the May 12, 2025 deadline.
In a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC confirmed that all candidates’ personal particulars, including Form EC9, academic credentials, and other pertinent documents, have been made available for public scrutiny.
The documents have been uploaded to INEC’s dedicated portal and are displayed at the Commission’s state headquarters and 21 local government offices across Anambra State, in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
“The uploaded documents are now accessible to the public, as required by the Electoral Act,” Olumekun stated. “We urge members of the public to thoroughly review the forms and supporting documents to ensure transparency in the electoral process.”
The release of these documents comes after the closure of the portal at 6:00 pm on May 12, 2025. INEC also reminded party aspirants that they have the legal right to challenge any candidate’s nomination in the Federal High Court, should they suspect any false information has been provided, as stipulated in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.
Furthermore, INEC has confirmed that the final list of candidates will be published by June 9, 2025, in accordance with the Electoral Act, ensuring the list is made public at least 150 days prior to the election.
“Any party aspirant who believes a nomination contains false information is encouraged to challenge it in the Federal High Court,” INEC added, reaffirming its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
