The Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement has announced plans to hold a “One Million Man March” in support of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, on Friday, July 19.
In a statement released in Umuahia, the group said the solidarity march will take place simultaneously in four major towns: Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, and Uzuakoli. The event coincides with Peter Obi’s birthday.
According to Chibuzor Obiesili, one of the movement’s state coordinators, and Christian Emmanuel, Head of the Media and Publicity Sub-committee, the march is part of a broader initiative to reaffirm support for Obi’s political vision and celebrate his legacy.
In their statement, the group also voiced strong backing for Obi’s alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform for his anticipated 2027 presidential bid, describing the ADC as an “organic coalition movement.”
“Obi believes that to dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges and not walls—even when those bridges are difficult,” the statement read.
In addition to the march, members of the Obidient Movement plan to carry out outreach activities across the state. These include visits to correctional facilities, hospitals, and other centers housing vulnerable individuals, where they intend to offer support and solidarity.
The Obidient Movement, which emerged as a political force during the 2023 elections, continues to champion causes tied to good governance, accountability, and youth involvement in Nigerian politics.
