Governor Hope Uzodimma has charged members of the Imo State Judicial Service Commission to uphold integrity, unity and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Uzodimma gave the charge during the swearing-in of new members of the commission at the Government House, Owerri, stressing that the strength of democracy rests on a committed and independent judiciary.
He described their appointment as a sacred trust and urged them to act in accordance with the law and in service to the people.
“Authority is entrusted to us by God. I encourage you to do what is right before God and in service to the people,” the governor said.
The newly inaugurated members are Hon. Lady Mercy Mgbechi Anyanwu, Barr. Louis Alozie, Prof. John Ukazu Njoku and Barr. Benneth Amukamara.
Uzodimma noted that the law establishing the commission aligns with democratic principles and is aimed at strengthening the justice system in the state.
He said the inauguration marked a vital step towards ensuring fairness, accountability and the rule of law, insisting that the judiciary remains central to sustaining public confidence in government institutions.
“You have been appointed today to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and to guide the system in the collective interest of our people,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Alozie appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing the appointment as a call to integrity, honesty and strict adherence to the oath of office.
He pledged that members of the commission would not be swayed by social media narratives or external pressures but would be guided by their conscience and the law.
Acknowledging past controversies surrounding the state judiciary, he assured that the commission would uphold fairness and deliver decisions that could stand the test of scrutiny.
