Governor Hope Uzodimma has vowed that his administration will stop at nothing to end the wave of killings and insecurity plaguing Imo State, declaring that those behind the violence—whether masked or known will face justice.

Speaking on Sunday after a church service at the Government House Chapel, a visibly angered Uzodimma expressed deep sorrow over the recent killing of innocent citizens in Ideato North, particularly in Arondizuogu, by what he described as “unscrupulous elements.”

“This madness must stop. Government will not fold its arms while innocent lives are being wasted by criminals and those sponsoring them,” the Governor said. “We are going after everyone involved, no matter how highly placed or politically connected they may be.”

Uzodimma hinted that some politicians are working behind the scenes to destabilize the state for selfish gains. He referenced a chilling incident two years ago when a local government chairman was beheaded in Ideato North. “The man who committed that gruesome act has been arrested and confessed. He has also named those he was working for. Some are already being interrogated,” the Governor disclosed.

He accused certain individuals of feigning loyalty to his administration while secretly engaging in conspiracies and targeted killings. “You cannot claim to support this government and at the same time aid the killing of your own people. Enough is enough.”

As part of sweeping security reforms, Uzodimma announced that every community in Imo will have a government-backed vigilance group operational within the next two weeks. These groups will be fully equipped and funded by the state to enhance local security and intelligence gathering.

“We are putting structures in place. But I urge our people to be part of the solution. Support these groups. Stand up against those trying to turn our state into a theatre of blood,” he appealed.

The Governor also warned political actors to stop overheating the polity, urging them to wait for the proper political season rather than exploiting violence for relevance.

On healthcare, Uzodimma reiterated his call for wealthier citizens to support the underprivileged by enrolling them in the Imo Health Insurance Scheme, which offers access to free healthcare services.

“We must work as one people to achieve the Imo State of our dreams. It’s not just government’s responsibility—it’s all of ours,” he said.

Earlier during the church service, Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine Agoawike urged Christians to live selflessly and share their blessings with others. “Earthly possessions are fleeting, but what matters most is our relationship with God and each other,” the priest reminded the congregation.

As insecurity continues to challenge the peace in Imo, Governor Uzodimma’s message is clear: the days of impunity are numbered.
