Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has warmly congratulated Edo cyclists who participated in the recently concluded African Para Cycling Track Championship held in Cairo, Egypt.
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele described the performance of Team Edo cyclists as exceptional — highlighted by the numerous medals won during the competition.
“Indeed, I commend these ambassadors of Edo State for showcasing their dominance and exceptional talents in Egypt, which truly reflects the Edo spirit,” he stated.
He emphasized that Governor Monday Okpebholo is deeply passionate about sports development in Edo and has mandated the commission to identify and nurture young talents who will bring pride to the state.
“Edo athletes are excelling across various sports disciplines nationwide. We have just witnessed Team Edo dominate the recently concluded EKUS Judo Championship, which further underscores Edo’s position as a powerhouse of sports in Nigeria,” Enabulele remarked.
Briefing the Executive Chairman on the championship’s proceedings, the Head Coach of the Cycling Association, Angela Okoro, highlighted the outstanding achievements of Edo athletes. She informed Hon. Enabulele that a talented 17-years old visually impaired cyclist, Ojieabu Favour Omo, emerged as the best among competitors from 11 African countries.
According to Coach Okoro, Edo’s female para-cyclist, Ojieabu Favour Omo, delivered remarkable performances, clinching three gold medals in Cairo — in the Tandem B Class Sprint, Individual Pursuit, and 1 Km Time Trial events.
She also noted that Edo athletes Osaretin Godwin Grace and Divine Ogbe defeated competitors from South Africa and Egypt in junior categories, bringing home three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal. Their outstanding performance earned them scholarships to UCI Camp, a prestigious reward for their excellence.
While Divine Ogbe secured one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal, Coach Angela Okoro used the opportunity to thank Hon. Enabulele for his unwavering support. She appealed for increased backing to further motivate Edo cyclists and elevate their careers both nationally and internationally.
