Several key members of Enugu State’s executive cabinet have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), paving the way for Governor Peter Mbah’s anticipated move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors include Lawrence Ezeh, commissioner for innovation, science and technology; Amaka Ngene, chairman of the science, technical, and vocational schools management board; and Felix Nnamani, commissioner for labour and employment

The defections also come just days after the APC’s National Working Committee dissolved the party’s Enugu chapter and appointed Dr. Ben Nwoye as caretaker chairman, a move insiders describe as a strategic welcome mat for Mbah and his allies.

Mbah’s Senior Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed the mass defection in a video posted on his social media handles.

Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC with full chest along with Governor PN Mbah,” Nwomeh stated.

Mbah, elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, is expected to announce his defection to the APC, the ruling party at the federal level, in the coming days.

According to videos in circulation, the flag of the ruling party has been hoisted at the Enugu government house in anticipation of Mbah’s defection to the party.

The collective defection marks a significant political shift in Enugu State, which has been a PDP stronghold since 1999.
