The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended a man named Mr. Chukwuma Onwe, a resident of Nwezenyi Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area, for allegedly selling his five-day-old son for ₦1.5 million
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the arrest in a statement noted that Onwe, a native of Nwezenyi Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area, was apprehended alongside the buyer, Mrs. Chinyere Ugochukwu, at Azugwu, Abaakaliki.
According to the police, Onwe deceitfully took the infant from his wife, Mrs. Philomena Iroko, under the guise of taking him for medical attention. He later sold the baby and falsely claimed to have handed the child over to his sister for care.
SP Ukandu added that the baby has since been recovered and reunited with his mother, while the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
