Tragedy struck the quiet Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday night as unknown gunmen brutally murdered a family of four in their sleep.
The victims — identified as Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo, his wife, and two children — were reportedly attacked in their apartment during the late hours, in what residents are describing as a cold-blooded execution. Eyewitnesses say the assailants stormed the home under the cover of darkness and left behind a scene of horror.
Ichie Igboanugo, known locally as the Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke, hailed from Ekwuru Isseke. The motive behind the gruesome killing remains unknown, though police sources say preliminary investigations suggest the family was attacked without provocation.
A joint security team has since been deployed to the area to forestall any further violence, while the bodies of the victims have been deposited at a local morgue.
“The command expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family and community of the deceased,” a police spokesperson said. “Our teams are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Investigations are ongoing.”
Residents remain in shock as the once-peaceful community grapples with the aftermath of the massacre. Authorities have promised to keep the public informed as more details emerge.
