In one of the most decisive security operations in recent months, the Imo State Police Command has dismantled multiple criminal syndicates—including kidnapping gangs and armed separatist cells—arresting 147 suspects and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition across the state.

The operation, spanning two months and led under the directive of Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, also resulted in a successful rescue of seven kidnap victims and the neutralization of five armed suspects during gun battles.

The arrests cut across a range of criminal activities, including armed robbery, child trafficking, rape, and terrorism. Among the items recovered were seven AK-47 rifles, three magazines, seven pump-action guns, seven locally fabricated long guns, 178 live cartridges, and several motorcycles. Security operatives also seized separatist paraphernalia, including Biafra flags, local currency, and spiritual charms believed to be used in fortifying attackers.

One of the most notable breakthroughs occurred on May 20 in Umuaka, Njaba LGA, where operatives apprehended 37-year-old native doctor Ozioma Ihedoro, who was on the police’s wanted list. Ihedoro reportedly confessed to being the spiritual adviser to a notorious IPOB/ESN commander known as “B44.” A search of his shrine led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three loaded magazines, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

In another related operation on May 19, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in collaboration with Njaba Division, arrested three robbery suspects from Isiagu, Ebonyi State. The suspects—Chinonso Anayo (24), Emmanuel John (21), and Ifeanyi John (20)—were caught during surveillance operations and confessed to multiple armed robberies. Police recovered a Q-Link motorcycle, two pump-action guns, and 15 live cartridges during the arrest.

CP Danjuma praised the professionalism and courage of the officers involved and reiterated the Command’s unwavering dedication to public safety. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police via the emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
