In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities in Nigeria’s southeast, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, and local Vigilante groups has uncovered and dismantled an illegal bomb-making facility operated by non-state actors in Isekke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement obtained by Coastreporters, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the coordinated operation led to the safe destruction of the factory and the demobilisation of several locally fabricated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) discovered on-site.
Isekke, which borders the troubled Orsu area in neighbouring Imo State, has long been considered a no-go zone, where criminal elements linked to a secessionist movement have maintained operational control for years.
“This camp has been one of the last remaining strongholds of the secessionist group and has remained inaccessible to security forces for over two years,” Ikenga stated.
He added that while one of the buried IEDs detonated during the assault—causing significant damage to a nearby road—no casualties were recorded among the operatives.
“The IED served as a tactical barrier to hinder the advance of the joint forces. Thankfully, the operation was conducted with no loss of life,” he said.
The security agencies have pledged to maintain pressure on criminal networks in the region, with continued operations aimed at reclaiming and stabilising communities affected by insurgent activities.
