Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on Edo citizens in the diaspora to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying continuity in federal leadership is critical to sustaining the development gains and renewed federal presence in the state.
The governor made the appeal during an ongoing engagement with Edo citizens in the United Kingdom, where members of the diaspora expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by his administration and exchanged views with government officials on the state’s development trajectory.
Responding to the commendation, Okpebholo said the achievements of his administration had been strengthened by the support and policies of President Tinubu, noting that the Federal Government had improved the financial capacity of states while also giving greater attention to federal infrastructure and development projects in Edo.
The governor, who described Edo citizens in the diaspora as influential stakeholders with valuable exposure to global best practices, urged members of Edo in diaspora to use their influence to encourage their families, friends and communities at home to support the President’s re-election. He said their support would help sustain Edo’s alignment with the Federal Government and attract more development to the state.
Okpebholo said, “I am happy to see that our people in the diaspora are following what is happening back home and are interested in the progress of Edo State. Your support and partnership are important to us. You have seen how things are done in developed countries. You understand the value of continuity and good governance. I appeal to you to use your influence to speak to your families and friends back home and support the President. It is in the best interest of Edo State,” he emphasized.
According to him, Edo has remained an important part of President Tinubu’s transformation agenda, with the state witnessing increased federal presence and renewed attention to critical infrastructure. He cited the ongoing rehabilitation of the Benin – Sapele-Warri, Benin-Onitsha and Benin-Auchi-Okene roads, which he said had suffered years of neglect, as well as the proposed establishment of a federal hospital in Edo Central, the coaster highway , the newly approved Army Division, among other interventions.
Okpebholo stressed that politics is ultimately about interests and the welfare of the people, maintaining that it is in the best interest of Edo State to support continuity at the federal level so that ongoing projects can be completed and new opportunities for development can be secured.
The engagement also featured interactive sessions in which Edo citizens in the diaspora freely shared their perspectives with the governor and members of his administration on the state’s progress, challenges and the need for policies that deliver the greatest good to the largest number of Edo people.
The highlight of the interactive engagement was the governor’s presentation of campaign crested T-Shirts, Face-caps and other President Tinubu’s Campaign souvenirs to members of Edo in the diaspora who had expressed commitment to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure continuity in the ongoing development in Edo
